Foreign Minister meets UK Foreign Secretary Lord David Cameron
Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman, received at the Ministry in Muscat this morning Lord David Cameron, the United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Development.
The meeting saw an exchange of views on regional developments, most notably the Palestinian issue.
The discussion focussed on efforts to support a ceasefire and to achieve a permanent humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip, allowing the disastrous humanitarian situation to be addressed and to secure the entry of aid relief of all kinds, as well as the release of detainees.
They also discussed effective action to implement the international consensus on the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with the principles of international law.
The Foreign Ministers agreed to continue efforts to contain conflicts and not to expand them regionally, to focus on means of securing a ceasefire and to give humanitarian aspects the highest priority.
Sayyid Badr and Lord Cameron also reviewed relations between Oman and the UK, agreeing to continue developing cooperation projects in all fields. They decided that the next meeting of the Omani-British working group will be held in Muscat during the coming period.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs; Ambassador Munther Al Mandhari, Head of the Europe Department; Dr Liane Saunders, British Ambassador to Oman, and a number of Omani and British officials.
