6 November 2022

The United Nations  Secretary General, Antonio Guterres has commended the efforts undertaken by the Sultanate of Oman in backing peace and stability in Middle East and the world at large.

Mr Guterres made the statement when he visited the premises of Oman’s Permanent Delegation to the UN in New York.

The world is well aware, he said,  of Oman’s history and the role of Omanis in propagating peace around the globe through their culture of tolerance and coexistence.

He added that the landmarks left behind by Omanis stand evidence to this approach in different parts of the world, notably in Asia and Africa. “The respect earned by Oman at the international level and the culture of tolerance and coexistence among the Omanis mirror its civilised heritage,” Mr Guterres said.

Dr Mohammed Awadh Al Hassan, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman at the UN Headquarters, expressed his appreciation of the visit of Guterres. He affirmed that Oman, led by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, is pressing ahead with its initiatives to serve security and peace in the world, consolidate international stability and cooperation and elevate the status of International Law.
