Course on policy principles gets underway
A programme on the principles guiding the Sultanate of Oman's domestic and foreign policy began at the Diplomatic Academy of the Foreign Ministry.
Organised by the Ministry of Labour in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry, the four day study programme will highlight the experiences of Ambassadors, officials and decision-makers. It will consider a range of topics, including diplomatic immunities and privileges, precedence and seniority as well as Oman’s foreign policy outlook. It will also cover, the 11th Five Year Plan and institutional excellence, offering an introduction to international relations and the distinction between politics and diplomacy. The programme aims to strengthen regional and international cooperation to help elevate the country’s global standing.
Ambassador Sheikh Humaid Almaani, Head of the Diplomatic Academy, said the programme provides a framework that guides public policies and reflects the strategic vision underpinning political, economic and social decisions.
He highlighted the importance of maintaining a balance between sustainable development, social justice, stability and the promotion of cultural identity.
Mohammed Alnajjar, Director General of Training at the Ministry of Labour, said that the Ministry, in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry, attaches great importance to the study programme as it highlights key principles and foundations set out in the Basic Law of the State relating to political and diplomatic matters. The course includes discussions on several important topics related to security and administrative affairs, he added.
He noted that it aims to familiarise participants with current internal and external developments, providing them with up-to-date information and trends, so equipping them to effectively respond to future changes and apply them appropriately in sound decision-making.
The Director General added that the programme is taking place while the region is witnessing significant developments, with the Sultanate of Oman playing a central and vital role. This he said, highlights the importance of developing the political, domestic and foreign dimensions of the course, which is being held for the ninth time.
The launch ceremony was held under the patronage of Sayyid Suleiman bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Ministers. The programme will run until April 24.
