Oman supports Palestine at UNCTAD

Switzerland: Oman commends report on UNCTAD aid to Palestine

17 September 2024

Oman has praised the report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on the assistance provided to the Palestinian people.

The report, presented by the Palestinian Ambassador on behalf of the Arab Group, highlighted the dire situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the difficult living conditions faced by the population.

It outlined how the intense Israeli war in Gaza and the restrictions imposed on the West Bank had caused the greatest damage to the Palestinian economy in modern history.

Gaza's infrastructure has been completely destroyed leading to increased poverty and unemployment and worsening the humanitarian and environmental conditions to an unprecedented level.

All these factors have weakened the Palestinian government's ability to function and provide basic services due to a lack of resources and recurring crises.

The report was commended by Ambassador Idris bin Abdul Rahman Alkhanjari, Oman's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organisations in Geneva.
