Salt mining concession signed
The Ministry of Energy and Minerals has signed a mining concession agreement with the Naqaa Salt Company.
The concession area covers 109 square kilometres in the Wilayat of Filim, Al Wusta Governorate, and aims to produce around 400,000 tonnes of salt annually.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Government of Oman by Engineer Salim Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, and on behalf of the Naqaa Salt Company by Dr Badar Al Kharusi, Chairman of Oman Minerals Development Company.
The project will involve natural evaporation, washing, and refining using modern production technologies for the extraction and production of industrial salt. Construction work is expected to begin early next year, with the project development phase spanning four years, in partnership with a foreign investor.
The project will contribute to stimulating industries related to salt resources, such as the production of bromine, caustic soda, soda ash, and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The project will provide essential materials used in various sectors, including chemical and plastic industries, water treatment, energy, and construction.
The project incorporates advanced technologies in the design and implementation of evaporation ponds, with a focus on minimising environmental impact and promoting sustainability.
