Oman Morocco Joint Committee meets in Muscat
The seventh session of the Oman Morocco Joint Committee was held in Muscat, co-chaired by Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi and Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco.
In his remarks during the session’s opening, Sayyid Badr spoke of the deep-rooted historical and fraternal relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Morocco, built on trust and mutual respect, guided by the noble leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and King Mohammed VI.
He noted that the convening of the Committee reflects both countries’ commitment to regular consultation and coordination. Sayyid Badr added that both Oman and Morocco are committed to taking cooperation to new levels, particularly in the economic, investment, trade, industrial, tourism and education sectors, with a focus on leveraging technological solutions, innovation and empowering the private sector.
For his part, Nasser Bourita expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman to promote peace and stability at the regional and international levels.
He praised Oman’s balanced and effective foreign policy under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
He spoke of the importance of building on the outcomes of previous sessions of the Committee and implementing signed agreements. He added that relations between Oman and Morocco serve as a model for bilateral coordination and cooperation, rooted in deep historical ties, mutual respect and shared visions.
At the conclusion of the session, four Memoranda of Understanding and an Executive Programme were signed. These cover the fields of digital transformation, renewable energy, mutual recognition of maritime certificates, sports cooperation and tourism.
In a joint statement, both countries affirmed their determination to strengthen cooperation across areas of mutual interest in order to open up new areas for future partnership, particularly in the economic, investment, trade, education, cultural and logistics sectors.
The joint statement also underscored the importance of strengthening Arab solidarity and joint action, upholding the sovereignty and unity of states, and rejecting any interference in their internal affairs.
Both Oman and Morocco reaffirmed their condemnation of terrorism and extremism in all its forms and rejected any attempt to associate this scourge with any religion or culture.
They called for coordinated regional and international efforts to combat terrorism and eliminate its sources.
The Committee meeting was attended by Khalid bin Salim Bamkhalef, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Kingdom of Morocco; Sheikh Faisal bin Omar Al Marhoon, Head of the Arab Department at the Foreign Ministry; Tarik Al Husaissen, Morocco's Ambassador to Oman; along with officials from the foreign ministries of both countries.
