Sheikh AbdulMalik conveyed the wishes of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said for the success of the summit.
In his speech, he affirmed Oman’s commitment to achieving the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goal of eliminating poverty and providing a decent standard of living for all segments of society.
In line with Oman Vision 2040, Sheikh AbdulMalik said a social welfare system was one of Oman's priorities to ensure community cohesion and to sustain a decent standard of living.
On climate change, he said Oman was vulnerable to hurricanes from the Indian Ocean. As a result, the Sultanate had set up the National Multi Hazard Early Warning System to reduce the impact on homes and properties.
On Gaza, Sheikh AbdulMalik said the G77, representing 80 per cent of the world’s population, had a responsibility to end Israeli aggression and to support the Palestinian right to a safe and dignified life with freedom and independence.
He concluded by thanking the Ugandan government for hosting the summit and the Republic of Cuba for its presidency of the group's previous session.
The G77 summit aims to unify the countries of the Global South by promoting economic and social development through trade exchange and market movement.
