Bilateral relations
Relations between Oman and Pakistan are long-standing, strategic and cultural. They are characterised by mutual understanding and are based on solid foundations: the bonds of religion, brotherhood and cultural values. In addition, both friendly countries enjoy geographical proximity sharing common maritime boundaries.
The Joint Commission, chaired by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, represents a basic framework for various areas of cooperation. Established by an important agreement between the two countries, it has so far held five sessions of meetings, alternately in each country.
Within the framework of these meetings, a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding have been signed. Further agreements to enhance and facilitate areas of cooperation between various sectors in both countries are in the process of preparation to be signed.
In the political sphere, a Joint Political Consultative Committee, established by a memorandum of understanding, operates between the two countries with regular meetings, discussions, exchange of views and coordination on various issues of common interest in the regional and international arenas.
In terms of economic and investment cooperation, the Pak Oman Investment Company (POIC) was established in 2001 with a capital of US$ 100 million during the high-level visit of His late Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
