Oman welcomes Aqaba meeting statement
Oman has welcomed the joint statement issued by a meeting of senior Jordanian, Egyptian, Israeli, Palestinian and American officials in Aqaba in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan yesterday.
A Foreign Ministry statement expressed the Sultanate's hope that the discussions that took place and the agreements reached would lead to a de-escalation in the cycle of violence between the Palestinian and Israeli sides and help prevent further clashes. The statement expressed Oman's hope that what was agreed upon would be adhered to.
The Ministry affirmed the Sultanate of Oman's firm position on the Palestinian issue that the brotherly Palestinian people should be enabled to obtain their legitimate rights and establish an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. This would be in accordance with the principle of a two-state solution, international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.
