Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, delivered the Sultanate’s speech to the Sustainable Development Goals Summit, held yesterday (September 18th) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The following is the text of the speech.

“Allow me at the outset, to express my honour at conveying the greetings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sultan of Oman, and his appreciation for the efforts made in organising this important summit.

This event comes at a time when the importance of our joint efforts to achieve sustainable development and improve the reality of life in all its aspects, towards achieving the goals of sustainable development on all axes, is increasing.

My country, the Sultanate of Oman, has made tangible efforts towards achieving the sustainable development goals. It has, in this respect,  made technology, science and digital transformation an essential part of its national strategies and legislation.

It is hoped that my country will submit its second voluntary national report in 2024, which will highlight its strong commitment to achieving the goals and continuing comprehensive progress in various social, economic and scientific fields and in the fields of the environment and renewable energy.

To achieve sustainable development, we believe that integration and cooperation between various sectors is necessary and requires a good understanding of challenges and opportunities and the development of innovative solutions.

Thus, the Sultanate of Oman’s path towards achieving the goals of sustainable development, as stipulated in Oman Vision 2040, reflects its strong commitment to science, technology and innovation, as well as supporting all efforts and international cooperation for the transfer of knowledge and technology and the facilitation of  investment and job opportunities to ensure a safe and prosperous future for all.”
