Sumaiya Al Siyabi
Innovation and Scientific Olympiad Specialist
Sumaiya is a scientist, entrepreneur and innovator. She sought to tackle plastic pollution, by inventing a floating microplastics processing ball that contains microbial mats and nanomaterials that quickly capture, dissolve and dispose of microplastics particles found in the ocean under sunlight.
Sumaiya won the Stars of Science Programme: the first woman and first Omani to win the award. Her other accolades include first place in the Sheikha Fadia Al Saad Scientific Competition, the Young Excellence Award, the Sultan’s Commendation Medal of the Second Degree, and the GCC Medal of Outstanding Creative Youth.
