Oman UK Joint Working Group meets in Muscat

The sixteenth session of the Oman UK Joint Working Group was held at the Foreign Ministry in Muscat.

The meeting reviewed relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom and explored ways to strengthen cooperation in pursuit of shared goals.

The Omani delegation was led by Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, Undersecretary for Political Affairs, while the UK delegation was headed by Hamish Falconer, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office responsible for the Middle East.

Discussions covered prospects for joint cooperation in cultural affairs, tourism, education, vocational training, the environment and renewable energy.

The two delegations also exchanged views on regional and international developments.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Mundhir bin Mahfouth Almandhari, Head of the Europe Department; Ambassador Abdullah bin Hamad Alriyami, Head of the Cultural Cooperation Department; Dr Liane Saunders, the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Oman; and a number of officials from the relevant government entities.

Following the meeting of Oman-UK Joint Working Group, the British Embassy organised a celebration marking 225 years since the signing of the historic agreement in 1800 that established longstanding relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom.

The celebration was marked by the unveiling of a special logo, reflecting the historic ties between the two countries.

The celebration was attended by Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs; Hamish Falconer, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office responsible for the Middle East, a number of officials from both sides, and individuals interested in bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
