Oman takes part in meeting of GCC, Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan
Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi headed Oman's delegation at a joint meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council, the countries of Central Asia and Azerbaijan held in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent.

The meeting, the second such held, was aimed at supporting the growing relations and partnership opportunities for the participating countries and the two geographical regions.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Foreign Minister held consultative talks with Jeenbek Kulubaev, Foreign Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jeyhun Bayramov, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The Foreign Minister also held political consultations with his Uzbek counterpart, Bakhtiyar Saidov.
On the occasion of this the second meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the GCC and Central Asian countries, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, received Sayyid Badr in the Presidential Administration Building.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said along with His Majesty’s good wishes to the President as well as His Majesty's good wishes to the Uzbek people for continued growth and prosperity and His Majesty's wishes for further progress in relations between the Oman and Uzbekistan.
The President expressed to the Minister his greetings and to His Majesty the Sultan and his good wishes to His Majesty and the Omani people and for further progress and development in relations between the two friendly countries.
The Foreign Minister made a short tour of some historical Islamic monuments in the Uzbek province of Samarkand and met with Erkinjon Turdimov, Governor of the province.
The tour included a visit to the city of Bukhara, which dates back 2,500 years and includes more than 700 archaeological and cultural buildings. The Minister also visited the shrine of Muhammad al-Bukhari, who was one of the most famous Muslim scholars in the field of memorising the Prophet’s Hadith.
Sayyid Badr also visited the famous Registan Square, considered one of the most prominent landmarks in Samarkand as it is surrounded by three of the most beautiful and important historic Islamic buildings – the Ulugh Beg Madrasa, the Sher-Dor Madrasah and the Tilla Kari Madrasa.
He was briefed on the Islamic architecture and historical building landmarks that surround the square and how they reflect the richness of Uzbekistan's cultural heritage.
The Foreign Minister praised the Uzbek government's interest in science, scholars and the exploits and relics of Islamic civilisation, and their promotion as a means of enhancing human relations and dialogue between cultures.
