Oman takes part in Global Climate Action Summit
Oman is participating in the Global Climate Action Summit at Cop28 in Dubai.
World leaders and Ministers joined the UN Secretary-General for the Conference of the Parties, an annual gathering of almost 200 countries that have signed the UN’s Framework Convention on Climate Change. The treaty aims to reduce the impact of human activities on climate change.
As head of Oman’s delegation, Energy and Minerals Minister Salem bin Nasser Al Aufi met regional directors and CEOs of energy companies. Current and future production rates, global market conditions and the economic challenges of reducing carbon emissions were discussed.
Sheikh Humaid Almaani, Head of Global Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, told the summit that Oman was working to balance environmental, economic and social considerations to achieve sustainable development. He said it was important to preserve natural resources to meet international agreements on climate action.
Under the slogan “Oman: a Sustainable Future”, the Sultanate is working to find practical solutions to global problems. It aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect the environment and promote renewable energy through the establishment of the Oman Sustainability Centre.
Oman has also taken important steps to meet its target of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
