Oman participated in the 162nd meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.

The Omani delegation was led by Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs, with the attendance of Abdullah bin Nasser bin Musalam Al Rahbi, Oman’s Ambassador to Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, along with officials from the Foreign Ministry.

The delegates discussed ways to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza and the West Bank and the crimes of genocide committed by Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people which have been ongoing for almost a year.

These crimes have resulted in the martyrdom, injury and disappearance of over 145,000 Palestinian civilians.

During the meeting, it was emphasised that a ceasefire is the only solution to the events in Gaza while Israeli occupation forces continue to violate all international conventions and treaties and persist in their crimes against civilians.

The meeting called on the international community to adopt a more positive stance against what Israel is doing in Palestinian territories with an emphasis on the necessity of the two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders.

The attendees agreed to dedicate this session to discussing the Palestinian issue reaffirming the priority of supporting the resilience of the Palestinian people against Israeli violations and pushing for accountability of those responsible for genocide in the International Criminal Court.

The meeting was attended by several international figures including Hakan Fidan, Foreign Minister of Turkey; Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy; Philippe Lazzarini, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Commissioner-General of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA); and Sigrid Kaag, UN Under-Secretary-General and Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza.
