Oman UN Speech on the situation in Palestine

Oman supports Palestinian struggle for freedom at UN special session

21 December 2023

The Sultanate of Oman has reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate cause in their struggle for freedom from occupation.

In a speech to the 10th Special Emergency Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Oman called for a global system founded on principles of equality and the protection of peoples.

The speech was delivered by First Secretary Ismail Marhoon Al Abri, part of Oman's Permanent Delegation to the United Nations in New York during the session entitled “Illegal Israeli actions in occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of occupied Palestinian territories.”

In the speech, First Secretary Al Abri said: “The convening of this special emergency session constitutes a clear rejection of collective punishment and ethnic cleansing against an entire people. Such unjust conduct allows the implementation of racist plans that we have rarely seen since World War II.”

“The world and peace-loving peoples will not forget Israel being given the green light to continue its crimes against the Palestinian people. We affirm that the project of genocide and ethnic cleansing is rejected. We hold Israel, as the occupying power, and its supporters, responsible for executing this crime.”

“This brutal aggression undermines the legitimacy of the Security Council and its role in maintaining international peace and security,” he added.

The representative of Oman's permanent delegation spoke of attempts by some to silence the voice of Palestine. But he noted that in response, the entire world had resonated with the voice of Palestine recognising that what Israel practices in front of the eyes and ears of the world is terrorism.
