Oman renews condemnation of Gaza atrocities
Oman has renewed its condemnation of the ongoing aggression by Israeli occupation forces in Gaza and other Palestinian cities.
At a special session of the World Health Organisation in Geneva, Oman's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Idris bin Abdul Rahman Alkhanjari, strongly condemned the targeting of civilians, medical teams, healthcare facilities and ambulances.
The Ambassador sent Oman's condolences to the families of Palestinians and UN workers who have been killed. More than 23,000 people have died, including 462 health workers and 46,000 people have been wounded according to the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor. 131 health facilities have been directly targeted.
Ambassador Idris said support for the health sector in Gaza was needed urgently. He said ignoring the needs of people with chronic diseases and war injuries amounted to a death sentence for thousands.
Oman welcomed the UN Secretary General's activation of Article 99 and his call to the UN Security Council to end the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza. But the Ambassador described the veto used to block the resolution as an insult to international and moral norms.
Oman called on the WHO to redouble its efforts to save lives and for the international community to demand an immediate and unconditional Israeli ceasefire. The Sultanate renewed its call for an independent Palestinian state and for the basic human right of health for the Palestinian people.
