Oman at International Day to Combat Islamophobia at UN

Oman's delegation took part in the UN General Assembly’s informal session to mark the International Day to Combat Islamophobia. It confirmed the Sultanate’s steadfast commitment to combating all forms of religious discrimination and fanaticism and to promoting the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among peoples.

In its address to the General Assembly, the delegation noted that the rise in Islamophobia threatens not only Muslims but also shared human values, undermining international efforts to promote understanding and peace.

The delegation reviewed Oman’s civilisational and humanitarian history. It firmly rejected all forms of hatred and discrimination and called for respect for religious and cultural diversity as a cornerstone for global peace and stability.

It urged the international community to take concrete steps to confront Islamophobia. This included supporting international measures to combat it. They called on states to enact legislation that prevents incitement to hatred and attacks on sacred scriptures, places of worship and religious symbols.

They also encouraged the use of media and social platforms to counter hate speech and promote messages of tolerance and mutual respect.

The Sultanate of Oman welcomed the UN Secretary-General’s efforts to appoint a special envoy to combat Islamophobia. It highlighted the importance of practical steps to address the rise in religious discrimination and fanaticism worldwide.

The delegation reaffirmed the need for international cooperation in combating all forms of discrimination and in promoting the principles of tolerance and cultural pluralism. It emphasised the importance of joint action to achieve a future free from hatred and extremism, where justice and mutual respect prevail.
