Oman marks 50th Anniversary of UN membership with commemorative stamp
The Foreign Ministry, in collaboration with Oman Post, has launched a commemorative stamp to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Sultanate of Oman joining the United Nations (UN) as a full member.
Oman’s flag was raised at the United Nations headquarters in New York on 8 October 1971 to become the 131st member state.
The new stamp was unveiled during a ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry in Muscat today under the patronage of HH Sayyid Kamil bin Fahad Al Said.
The event was attended by Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister, Eng. Said Hamoud Al Ma’awali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, as well as undersecretaries of the Foreign Ministry and representatives from Oman Post.
The stamp features His late Highness Sayyid Tarik bin Taimour Al Said, delivering Oman’s first speech on the occasion of its accession to the UN.
