Oman makes statement at UNCTAD Board meeting
Oman expressed its support for statements made at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Board meeting (UNCTAD).
The statements were made by the Palestinian Ambassador on behalf of the Arab Group, the Cambodian Ambassador on behalf of the G77 and China and the Bangladeshi Ambassador on behalf of the Asia-Pacific Group.
Oman's response at the general debate was delivered by Ambassador Idris bin Abdulrahman Al Khanjari, the Sultanate's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organisations in Geneva.
He began by conveying heartfelt condolences to all members of the Peruvian Mission in Geneva following the passing of Ambassador Ana Díaz.
He also thanked the UNCTAD Secretariat for its efforts in preparing the documents for the session, hoping for a successful outcome that serves the interests of all member states.
The statement reaffirmed Oman's support for UNCTAD's efforts to achieve all developmental goals, highlighting its role since its establishment in 1964 in empowering member states, particularly developing and least developed countries, to eliminate economic backwardness and to achieve higher levels of sustainable development and growth.
The Ambassador welcomed the initiative launched by Secretary-General António Guterres to establish a United Nations Office for Artificial Intelligence which will work closely with the International Telecommunication Union to promote a globally coordinated, cohesive and integrated approach.
The statement affirmed Oman's readiness to work with all members to enable the Board to make sound decisions that will enhance UNCTAD's work and enable it to carry out its tasks effectively.
