Oman hosts regional cybersecurity conference

Muscat hosted the 12th Regional Cybersecurity Exercise for Arab states, members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and participants from Asia, the Pacific and Africa.

The event is organised by the Regional Cybersecurity Centre, hosted by Oman and represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology as part of Regional Cybersecurity Week.

More than 600 representatives of national emergency response teams from participating countries and national cybersecurity centres from Arab and Islamic states took part.

Activities and proposed scenarios focused on building the capacities of response teams and strengthening communication between them to ensure an effective response to rising cyber threats.

The event also targeted information security centres in key sectors to safeguard data and digital services from virtual attacks.

Khalid Al Rawahi, Director of Risk and Cyber Incident Management at the National Centre for Information Security, said the cybersecurity exercise is an essential part of ongoing efforts to protect systems and information from escalating digital threats.

He said the exercise helps improve the skills and abilities of teams in countering cyberattacks, reinforcing the security of digital infrastructure and enhancing its readiness to face future challenges as a foundational step in safeguarding digital systems and supporting the stability of the digital economy
