Oman Golf Trophy 2024 concludes in Muscat

The final of the Oman Golf Trophy 2024 concluded this evening in Muscat. The tournament, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ran from April to December this year.

The final round was held at Al Mouj Golf Course under the patronage of Basil Al Rawas, Undersecretary for Sports and Youth of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, in the presence of dignitaries and participating players.

More than 80 players took part in the final round, including 48 who had qualified out of a total of 5,500 participants from 79 stages held across seven countries. Diplomats, business leaders and media representatives from Oman and abroad also participated, alongside members of the Omani national golf team.

The tournament aimed to use golf to strengthen diplomatic, trade, and cultural relations, while promoting Oman’s investment and tourism opportunities in line with Oman Vision 2040. Following the opening event hosted in Italy last April, this year’s competition progressed through stages held in Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, South Africa, and India, before culminating in the final round in Muscat.

In the men’s competition, Austrian, Otmar Foster won first place and the overall championship, followed by Japan’s Atsushi Kiba in second place, with Austria's Gerald Monsberger in third.

In the women’s competition, Japan’s Hiroko Ozaki claimed first place, while Italian Michal Orenti came second and German Gabriella Borstner Bania secured third.

The final round consisted of three stages. In the third and final stage, Japan’s Atsushi Kiba won first place overall. German Gabriella Borstner Bania won the award for the closest shot to the hole, while Italian Silvia Valli won the longest drive award in the women’s category, and Germany's Jonas Lange secured the longest drive award in the men’s category.

In the second stage, held at La Vie Golf Course in Al Hail Heights, Austrian Otmar Foster secured first place overall. Frenchman Edouard Oliver won the award for the closest shot to the hole, while Austrian Gerald Monsberger and German Jonas Lange won the awards for the longest drive in their respective categories.

The first stage of the final round, hosted at Ghala Golf Club, saw fierce competition among all 48 players. Japan’s Atsushi Kiba won first place overall, while Austrian Gary Stangel claimed the award for the closest shot to the hole. Frenchman Riyadh Dinath won the longest drive award, and Japanese Hiroko Ozaki claimed the longest drive award in the women’s category. Japanese Hikaru Yokoshiki won the closest shot to the hole in the men’s category.

As part of the final round’s activities, participants visited prominent cultural and heritage sites in Oman, including landmarks in Muscat, Wadi Shab, Nizwa, Al Hamra, and Nakhal, as well as a trip to the Ad Dimaniyat Islands.

Speaking at the closing ceremony Khalid Al Muslahi, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs, said: “Golf provides an ideal platform for enhancing relationships and exploring collaboration opportunities, while showcasing Oman’s stunning courses and landscapes.

“This tournament brought together elite international and local players in a friendly atmosphere, fostering connections among participants in a unique experience.

“It also highlighted our efforts to promote Oman as a global destination for international sporting events, tourism, and investment.”
