Published On: 31 July 2024

The Foreign Ministry has expressed the Sultanate of Oman’s strong denunciation of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, Head of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

An official statement says this act is a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law and a clear undermining of efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

Oman reaffirms its firm stance against all forms of terrorism, regardless of motives or causes. It also rejects violations of the sovereignty and sanctity of states. Oman calls on the international community to urgently intervene to punish the perpetrators of these crimes and political assassinations. Furthermore, it urges immediate action to halt Israeli aggression, the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories and the policy of killing, extremism and persecution practiced against the defenceless Palestinian people in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem.

Oman also expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the late Ismail Haniyeh and his companion. It prays for patience and solace for the Palestinian people and their leadership.
