The Sultanate of Oman showcases its plan to transition to clean energy at the Global Hydrogen Summit in the Netherlands

The Sultanate of Oman is taking part in the World Hydrogen Summit 2024, which is currently being held in Rotterdam in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

During the summit Oman is presenting its ambitious vision to become one of the largest countries exporting low-carbon hydrogen by 2030.

Oman’s is represented at the summit is by: the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Oman's Embassy to the Netherlands, as well as Omani companies in with the hydrogen sector, including the Oman Hydrogen Company “Hydrom” and the alternative energy unit of the OQ Group.

During the summit the Omani delegation is participating in a number of panel discussions, meetings and field visits to green hydrogen projects in the city of Amsterdam.

Throughout the Summit, Oman is promoting its ongoing efforts to build an integrated hydrogen sector, by taking advantage of Oman’s strategic location and the potential of its sustainable resources to top the list of countries producing green hydrogen in the world.

On the sidelines of the summit Oman also participated in the International Hydrogen Trade Forum in Rotterdam, where it shared its vision for the advancement of the green hydrogen sector and explained  the advantages it enjoys in terms of renewable energy resources, infrastructure, logistical capacity and appropriate legislation. It also explained the major effort underway and projects it has already signed in the field of green hydrogen .

The forum focusses on ways to enhance international cooperation at the private sector and government levels by developing global trade corridors for low-carbon hydrogen. It discusses linking suppliers with buyers, supporting developers to achieve hydrogen projects and ways to accelerate the establishment of the infrastructure necessary to develop supply chains for the green hydrogen sector.

Hydrom has already sign agreements to develop green hydrogen projects with a total investment value of 49 billion US dollars. This will raise Oman's hydrogen production capacity to 1.38 million tons annually by 2030.
