Oman and Tanzania issue joint statement

Stemming from the friendly and historical ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Republic of Tanzania, and to the gracious invitation from His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik – may God protect him – the Sultan of Oman, Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania paid a State visit to the Sultanate of Oman along with a high-level delegation for a period of three days, starting from Sunday, Dhu al-Qi'dah 12, 1443 AH, corresponding to June 12th 2022, until Tuesday, Dhu al-Qi'dah 14, 1443 AH, corresponding to June 14th 2022.

His Majesty and the President held official talks in the spirit of kinship and friendship and reiterated their mutual firm and sincere desire to strengthen bilateral relations and encourage them to broader horizons in all fields and levels in a way that serves the mutual benefit of the two countries and their friendly peoples. During the talks, issues regarding bilateral relations and ways to develop them were discussed, especially those related to economic cooperation in its various fields.

The two parties expressed their satisfaction with the outcomes reached as a result of the joint committee for cooperation between the two countries in various fields and affirmed their keenness to hold the meetings of the committee on a regular basis, leading to the follow-up and development of relations.

The two sides expressed their satisfaction with the role played by the Omani Investment Authority through the existing projects in Tanzania, as well as the role of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in the restoration of historical and archaeological sites in Zanzibar and the advanced stage that these works have reached.

The two sides stressed the positive and fruitful role played by the private sector in the two countries, in the context of increasing the partnership between the two sides, and expressed their hope that these activities lead to an increase in the volume of investments and trade and economic exchange between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Republic of Tanzania.

During the talks, views were exchanged on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, and the importance of increasing efforts to ensure the continuity of security and stability in the world based on collective cooperation was emphasised. The two sides also stressed the importance of combating terrorism in all its forms and types and called for the continuation of cooperation and development and the rejection of violence and extremism.

The two sides approved the establishment of a joint investment fund which aims to invest in feasible projects across several sectors. An agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of tax evasion with respect to income taxes was initialed between the Governments of the Sultanate of Oman and the United Republic of Tanzania. The two countries also signed various memoranda of understanding in fields such as energy, higher education and training, tourism and natural resources, industry and trade, promotion and investment, food investments, airport management, oil services, national museums, live animals and meat.

Both sides also welcomed the strategic partnership memorandum signed between Oman Post, Asyad Express and Tanzania Post to cooperate in the fields of e-commerce solutions and logistical services, enabling entrepreneurs to increase trade exchange activities between the Sultanate of Oman and United Republic of Tanzania and strengthen their presence in the African market. In addition to issuing joint postage stamps documenting the historical and cultural ties between the two countries.

At the conclusion of the visit, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, expressed her gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik – may God protect him – and the Government and people of the Sultanate of Oman for the warm reception and generous hospitality accorded to her and her delegation.
