Minister's speech to Extraordinary Joint Arab Islamic Summit
Speech by Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Head of Oman's Delegation at the Extraordinary Joint Arab Islamic Summit, Riyadh, November 11, 2024.
“In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Praise be to Allah, in whose hands lie goodness and justice, and prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, the trustworthy, who bestowed upon us all virtue, and upon his family and companions… and after…
“Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud,
“His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,
“Your Majesties, Excellencies, and Highnesses, Heads of Delegations,
“Esteemed attendees,
“Peace be upon you and the mercy and blessings of Allah,
“It is an honour for me to convey to you the sincere greetings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman, and his heartfelt wishes for the success of this gathering, especially during these difficult times that require united and effective efforts to end the suffering and pain of the brotherly Palestinian people and to assist them in achieving their legitimate rights.
“Today, we are witnessing an escalating humanitarian crisis in both Gaza and Lebanon as a result of ongoing Israeli occupation forces' aggression and the policy of extermination they are pursuing, where lives are lost and innocents are deprived of their most basic rights to life.
“The scenes of bombing, destruction, and annihilation affecting residential areas, health and educational facilities, and basic infrastructure exceed all measures of humanity. This calls for collective action to open humanitarian corridors without restrictions, conditions, or obstacles.
“In the Sultanate of Oman, we reaffirm our call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to Israeli hostile operations in Lebanon. We stress the need for an independent international investigation into these repeated violations, as justice is the foundation of peace. Listening to and adhering to the rule of law and accountability is the only way to end this continuous suffering.
“Your Majesties, Excellencies, and Highnesses,
“The impact of this tragic situation in occupied Palestine and Lebanon has spread, resulting in a significant escalation in other parts of the Middle East, threatening the entire region's stability.
“We all believe that there is no path to peace and stability except through political solutions based on respecting the rights of peoples and preserving the sovereignty of states. The stability we seek for our region can only be achieved through a comprehensive vision rooted in justice and rights.
“In this context, the Sultanate of Oman remains steadfast in its support for the two state solution as an essential path to achieving just peace. The establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is an inalienable right of the Palestinian people that cannot be relinquished.
“Therefore, we support the noble initiative launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to form an international coalition aimed at achieving the two state solution. We emphasise the importance of taking practical steps to achieve this goal, starting with international recognition of the Palestinian State. History will record that this esteemed assembly played a part in affirming this legitimate right. In this regard, we appreciate the positions of countries that have recognised the Palestinian State and call on others to join this initiative, contributing to the enhancement of justice and the establishment of long awaited rights, so that the flag of Palestine may fly in the sky of freedom, announcing the fulfilment of rightful claims.
“We pray to Almighty Allah to grant us success and wisdom in these noble endeavours, to guide our Islamic nation towards what is beneficial and good, and to assist us in upholding justice and establishing peace in the region and the world. We express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to our brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their warm hospitality, generous reception, and excellent organisation of this important summit.”
