Minister heads Oman’s delegation to Extraordinary Arab Islamic summit

11 November 2024

In the service of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Oman's Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi led the Omani delegation participating in an Extraordinary Joint Arab Islamic Summit held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

During the summit, he conveyed the greetings of His Majesty to the leaders and heads of delegations participating in the summit, along with sincere wishes for its success.

In his speech, Sayyid Badr said: “Today, we are witnessing a humanitarian crisis that has worsened in both Gaza and Lebanon due to the ongoing Israeli occupation forces' aggression and the policy of extermination they practice, where lives are lost and innocent people are deprived of the most basic rights to life.”

He added that the scenes of bombing, destruction and extermination affecting residential neighbourhoods, healthcare facilities, educational institutions and infrastructure, surpass all measures of humanity, necessitating collective action to open unrestricted, unconditional relief corridors.

Sayyid Badr reaffirmed Oman's stance, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to Israel's hostile operations in Lebanon, emphasizing the need for an independent international investigation into these repeated violations.

“Justice is the foundation of peace, and accountability is the only way to end this continuous suffering,” he added.

He noted that the effects of this tragic situation in occupied Palestine and Lebanon have spread, resulting in significant escalation in other parts of the Middle East, threatening regional stability as a whole. He added that the only path to the stability that everyone seeks is through a comprehensive vision based on rights and justice.

“Oman remains steadfast in its support for the two state solution as the fundamental means to achieve just peace,” he said.

“Establishing an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital is an inherent right of the Palestinian people that cannot be relinquished,” he added.

Sayyid Badr highlighted Oman's support for the initiative launched by Saudi Arabia to form an international coalition aimed at achieving the two state solution, stressing the importance of practical steps towards this goal, beginning with international recognition of the Palestinian State. He appreciated the positions of the countries that have recognised the Palestinian State and called on others to join this initiative to uphold justice and establish long awaited rights.

He concluded his speech by asking for divine guidance to support and inspire all towards these noble efforts and to aid the Arab and Islamic nations in upholding justice and establishing peace.

The Omani delegation to the summit included Sayyid Faisal bin Turki Al Said, Oman's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Permanent Representative to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation; Ambassador Abdullah bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Oman's Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League; Sheikh Faisal bin Omar Al Marhoon, Head of the Arab Department; and several other officials.
