Launch of plan to exploit local products and reduce imports
The Taseen plan has been launched to boost reliance on local products, increase the percentage of local components in national industries, support Omani small and medium enterprises and enhance the efficiency of local supply chains.
Through its various programmes, the plan contributes to achieving the national goals outlined in Oman Vision 2040, which seeks economic diversification and reduced dependence on imports.
The plan was launched by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and includes three main programmes: “Enhancing Local Content in the Industrial Sector,” “Empowering Manufacturers and Suppliers,” and “Empowering the Omani Product.”
Each of these programmes contains several initiatives aimed at supporting local industries and strengthening their competitiveness both locally and internationally.
Mazen bin Hamid Al Siyabi, Assistant Director General of the Directorate General of Industry at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said that the Taseen plan will be accompanied by the introduction of the Itqan programme, which will work with various partners to empower the national workforce in the industrial sector and equip Omani youth with the necessary industrial skills to achieve the strategic industrial goals of Oman Vision 2040.
Mazen Al Siyabi said that through this plan, the Ministry aims to enhance local content in the industrial sector and develop local products by supporting domestic manufacturing, increasing reliance on national raw materials, encouraging innovation and motivating small and medium enterprises to contribute to the supply chain.
The plan also seeks to develop national expertise and build local capacities to help improve product quality and increase competitiveness in both domestic and international markets, he added.
