New agreements to develop minerals sector

The Ministry of Energy and Minerals announced the signing of two key concession agreements to develop areas with promising indicators of abundant deposits of  chrome, copper, and silica (silicon dioxide).

The agreements represent a significant step in advancing the development of the Sultanate’s minerals sector as part of Oman’s strategy to enhance the mining sector.

Engineer Salim Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, signed the concession agreement for Area 11-A, located in Al Buraimi Governorate in northern Oman, with Humaid Al Maqbali, Chairman of Oman Chromite Company.

Studies have shown large quantities of copper and chrome in this area.

For Concession Area 51-F, located in Al Wusta Governorate, the Minister signed the development agreement with Nasser Al Maqbali, CEO of Minerals Development Oman (MDO). Preliminary studies indicate substantial deposits of high-purity silica.

The agreements commit both companies to comprehensive explorations including surveys, geological mapping and deep drilling to identify potential mineral deposits.

The Minister of Energy and Minerals said that these agreements are a critical part of Oman’s efforts to expand the Sultanate's mining sector. The goal is to strengthen Oman’s position as a leading investment destination in mining while supporting local communities and protecting the environment.
