His Majesty endorses the launch of “Oman 2040”
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has endorsed the launch of the future vision “Oman 2040”
The blueprint for the economic and social development of the Sultanate will be applied from the beginning of 2021 until 2040.
Speaking at a meeting of the Council of Ministers at Al Barakah Palace, His Majesty the Sultan said Vision 2040 is the result of a national consensus reached by discussion and consultation among all parts of society.
The 2040 vision aims to ensure Oman is among the ranks of the world’s most developed nations assuring sustained prosperity and security for all. It sets out a vision for the transition of Oman from an oil-based economy towards a more diverse knowledge-based one.
Based on the national priorities set out within Oman Vision 2040, His Majesty the Sultan called for a channelling of efforts and resources to achieve fiscal balance, while making the employment of citizens a national priority. To achieve this, he called for the streamlining and acceleration of government services, the development of economic zones and legal instruments for investment, and the implementation of major projects along with the development of national expertise.
His Majesty the Sultan confirmed the Government’s continued commitment to pursuing five-year plans to achieve the goals and priorities of Oman Vision 2040 and informed the Council of Ministers that he has followed with great attention the preparation of the 10th Five Year Plan (2021-2025), as well as the General Budget of the State for the 2021 fiscal year.
He reaffirmed that Majlis a’Dawla and Majlis A’Shura are partners in the development process, emphasising the need to maintain continuous cooperation between the Government and the Council of Oman.
His Majesty the Sultan also gave directives to senior government officials and Governors to hold regular meetings, with the walis, with sheikhs, dignitaries and citizens in their respective wilayats to study the needs of the wilayats for services and development projects and to listen to their opinions about service plans and programmes.
