On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, headed the Sultanate of Oman’s delegation to the 42nd Arab Gulf Cooperation (GCC) Summit, which opened at Al Dar’eeya Palace in Riyadh today.

HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Saudi Arabia, gave a speech in which he underlined a cluster of political and economic issues of concern to GCC states. He also commended the achievements made by the GCC at all levels.

In his speech before the 42nd GCC Summit, HH Sayyid Fahd expressed thanks and appreciation for the tremendous efforts HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman has exerted to advance the interests of the GCC and its member states.

HH Sayyid Fahd said, “For a long time, the GCC has not seen such a great harmony and such an earnest desire exhibited by all to promote joint action for the sake of the peoples of the GCC countries.”

HH Sayyid Fahd addressed a message of appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, for the attention they have accorded to the progress of the GCC. This attention, he said, reflected on all our countries.

HH Sayyid Fahd also thanked King Hamad bin Issa of Bahrain for his role in managing the previous GCC Summit and for all that it accomplished.

In his speech, HH Sayyid Fahd said, “I am delighted to convey to you all the greetings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and of the Omani government and people, who express their sincere regards to you and all your peoples.”

HH Sayyid Fahd voiced the Sultanate of Oman’s willingness to chair the next summit, affirming that Oman will do its best during the coming year. Oman is envisaging a mechanism to maintain active convening of major GCC sessions in Saudi Arabia, he added.
