Foreign Minister receives officials fighting human trafficking

Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyd Badr Albusaidi, received today key figures in the fight across the region against the crime of human trafficking.

The meeting took place as the Sultanate hosted the 5th session of the Government Forum to Combat Human Trafficking in the Middle East.

Present at the meeting were  heads of anti-human trafficking committees in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Jordan, and Egypt, as well as representatives of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council and representatives of regional and international organisations participating in the Forum.

During the meeting, Sayyid Badr spoke of the important role played by the GCC-Arab committees entrusted with combating human trafficking through the measures that the panels undertake to spread public awareness, as well as their participation in regional and international events, the enactment of national laws, the exchange of expertise and experiences and their endeavours to join ranks to address the phenomenon in a way that protects public security.

Sayyid Badr stressed the need to strengthen coordination among those committees and put into practice the findings of the studies that they conduct. He pointed out that Oman's National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT) receives the full support of the Government  thanks to the committee’s effective cooperation with other institutions in the Sultanate.

The meeting dealt with prominent topics on the agenda of the Forum which seeks to enhance the performance of the national committees across the Middle East.

The forum's participants expressed their thanks to the Sultanate of Oman for hosting the 2024 session of the forum, which, they said had produced good results.

They also voiced their appreciation for Oman’s cooperation and continuous support for joint GCC-Arab progress on combating human trafficking, to help make it a model of success at the regional and global levels.
