Gulf Statistical Centre says Oman has achieved many development goals
The GCC Statistical Centre confirmed that Oman has achieved many of its goals in its efforts to promote sustainable and inclusive development, surpassing regional and global indicators in some of these targets.
According to Oman-specific data mentioned in the Centre’s special report, 99.8 percent of the population benefits from drinking water services, 100 percent have access to electricity services and 99.9 percent of births take place under medical supervision. 100 percent of urban solid waste is regularly collected.
Economically, Oman has made significant progress, with the annual real per capita GDP growth rate reaching 1.5 percent. Total government spending in 2023 exceeded 11.55 billion Omani Rials [OMR] (approximately 30.2 billion US dollars), while the non-oil sector contributed more than 64 percent of GDP. Per capita GDP surpassed 8,100 OMR. Inflation rates remained low at less than 1 percent.
The report continues by noting that Oman has gained wide international and regional recognition. It ranked first globally in the Cybersecurity Readiness Index for 2024, second globally in the percentage of science and engineering graduates to total graduates for 2023 and eighth globally in the Quality of Life Index for 2023. It was ninth globally in government spending per student.
Regionally, Oman led the Arab world in the Renewable Energy Regulatory Index for 2023, came second in the Environmental Performance Index for 2024 and ranked fourth in the Industrial Competitiveness Performance Index for 2024.
The report, issued on the occasion of the 54th National Day, states that Oman is steadily progressing towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 through Oman Vision 2040, which includes sustainable development goals among its objectives.
The GCC Statistical Centre noted that Oman’s efforts strengthen the achievements and position of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which ranks eleventh globally in terms of economic size, contributing two percent to global GDP.
The sovereign wealth funds of the GCC countries amount to 4.4 trillion US dollars, representing 34 percent of the total assets of the world's top 100 sovereign wealth funds.
