Foreign Minister in phone call with head of Hamas abroad
Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi held a phone call this evening with Khaled Meshaal, head of the Hamas office in the Palestinian diaspora. He expressed his sincere condolences on the passing of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Political Bureau of Hamas.
Sayyid Badr recalled the significant role played by the late Haniyeh in the struggle for Palestinian rights and his defence of their just cause. He affirmed Oman's steadfast and supportive stance on the Palestinian cause, highlighting the necessity of continuing efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He also stated that the deplorable assassination of Ismail Haniyeh undermines the mediation and peace efforts made by the active parties in the region, through which Hamas had shown readiness to reach a ceasefire agreement.
In response, Khaled Meshaal expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the condolences and sympathy of Oman, its leadership and its people. He valued Oman's long standing supportive positions towards the Palestinian cause and its justice.
