Foreign-Ministry-Statement

Oman “closely following with great concern” military escalation in the region

2 October 2024

The Foreign Ministry has expressed its deep concern over the developments of military escalation in the region and the serious repercussions they may have, stressing the importance of exercising restraint to spare the region and its peoples the dangers of war.

In an official statement, the Ministry condemns the brutal aggression by Israel on Lebanese territory along with the irresponsible political assassinations that disregard international norms and laws.

The Sultanate of Oman also rejects the continued disregard for international resolutions that call for Israel’s full withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian and Arab lands.

The Ministry notes that the occupation, which has persisted for more than seventy years, is the primary cause of ongoing conflict and violence in the region and obstructs any genuine efforts to protect the rights of people to achieve the security and stability they desire.

Oman emphasises the need for the international community to grant the Palestinian people their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

This is seen as a fundamental step towards restoring security, stability and peace in the region.
