Minister meets with Ambassadors and Heads of Missions to Oman
Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi held the fifth annual meeting with the Ambassadors and the heads of diplomatic missions and international organisations accredited to the Sultanate of Oman.
The meeting aimed to exchange views on current regional issues and clarify topics related to the development path and Oman Vision 2040, as well as Omani foreign policy.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister praised the valuable efforts made by the heads of missions and their colleagues in maintaining and continually developing relations with Oman.
On the political front, he reiterated that the two-state solution is the only option for achieving peace in the Middle East. He said: “The Palestinian people alone have the final say in determining the form of sovereignty of their desired state,”
He added that Oman appreciates the steps taken by some countries toward formally recognising the State of Palestine, saying that this: “has bolstered the significant global majority on this issue.”
The discussions were dominated by the dire situation in Gaza and the severe suffering of the Palestinian people due to military operations by Israeli occupation forces, which have violated and surpassed the rules of international and humanitarian law. The situation in Lebanon was also addressed.
Sayyid Badr presented several ideas that could help confront current challenges and achieve global justice and peace, including the need to reform the United Nations Security Council and the veto powers held by permanent member states.
“This system dates back to the Cold War era and clearly, at this moment, poses an obstacle to achieving international justice while protecting the interests of a single state that continues, blatantly, to violate international law,” he said.
Sayyid Badr spoke about the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, highlighting the resilience of the Omani economy within the framework of a policy to diversify the economy, to make it an attractive investment prospect, and to provide opportunities to support innovation and technology projects while building human capacity and skills.
He also spoke about the Social Protection Law, which provides a vital safety net for various sections of society, and the Research and Innovation Law, which establishes a national system to encourage research and innovation.
The Foreign Minister affirmed that His Majesty's Government is committed to creating the best possible opportunities for investors and entrepreneurs and to supporting success, while ensuring the welfare of those unable to benefit from these opportunities.
In conclusion, the Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to the Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Oman and the organisations working in the country for their efforts to strengthen relations and cooperation with the Sultanate.
The Heads of Missions, in their responses, said they sincerely appreciated the Foreign Minister’s initiative and his keenness to hold this fruitful annual meeting. They also expressed their support for the partnership with Oman.
The meeting was attended by Khalid Almuslahi, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Najib Albalushi, Head of the Protocol Department; and several Ministry officials.
