Foreign Minister visits Oman’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

13 November 2021

Oman's Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, visited the Sultanate’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai on Saturday. During his visit, Sayyid Badr was briefed on the elements of the exhibition and how it represents Oman’s culture and heritage both in the past and into the future

Oman’s pavilion demonstrates its active participation in the World Expo 2020 Dubai, within a framework of partnership, understanding and exchange of views at all levels. The pavilion sheds light on various sustainability issues, communicating with existing mindsets while creating opportunities for the future, following the main themes of Expo 2020.

The striking design of the pavilion is inspired by the frankincense tree. The design was created  by two young Omani women adding to the many achievements of Omani youth and what has been achieved in their great land. Real frankincense trees feature in the pavilion's exterior garden. The trees will be returned to nature after the exhibition.

Oman’s pavilion tells visitors about the life of the frankincense tree and the story of the pavilion. The pavilion highlights four main themes: sustainability, nurturing talent, communication, and knowledge.

In the middle of the main hall a model of a frankincense tree reproduces this remarkable tree in all its subtle details, symbolising its many physical, emotional, and spiritual meanings, as well as explaining its various practical uses.

On the surrounding wall of the main hall, a panoramic screen tells the story of Omani frankincense from the land of Wadi Dawka and its journey through the civilisations of the world over time, reflecting the main themes of Dubai Expo. The story displayed touches on the ancient trade in frankincense in the Arabian Peninsula and explains how frankincense  has been used in mummification in ancient Egypt, in Christian prayers since Old Testament times and in ancient Chinese medicine.
