Foreign Minister says shared positive elements key to enhancing regional cooperation
During his recent visit to Iran, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister, gave an interview to the Iranian news channel, where he discussed the “positive, productive, and progressive” partnership between Oman and Iran and shared his perspective on broader regional issues.
The Minister reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote cooperation, trust, understanding, and justice among all nations. He called on all parties to overcome challenges through constructive collaboration.
He emphasised the importance of focusing on “the positive elements that unite us and bring regional countries closer together.”
He noted that his meetings with Masoud Pezeshkian President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Dr Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, had resulted in tangible progress toward shared goals.
In the interview, Sayyid Badr highlighted the “capacity of the region’s people to build a better future,” praising the immense potential of the region to achieve security and stability.
The Minister also addressed Oman and Iran’s shared commitment to Palestinian justice, underscoring that the global majority supports a ceasefire, adherence to international law, and a fair resolution.
He expressed his confidence that “diplomacy will prevail” while acknowledging the challenges related to implementing UN Security Council resolutions and ending the ongoing atrocities that have claimed over 50,000 lives in Palestine and Lebanon.
With regard to Syria, Sayyid Badr stated that “the Syrian issue must be resolved by the Syrian people,” and emphasised that the role of external parties should be to support this process. He added that Oman follows a similar approach in addressing the situations in Palestine, Yemen, and Sudan, reasoning that external interventions often fail to adequately address legitimate demands, leading to unsustainable solutions.
Despite the significant obstacles to achieving peace in the region, the Minister pointed out that recent statements from Omani and Iranian officials reflect a strong determination to engage constructively and a steadfast belief that justice will ultimately prevail.
