Foreign Minister leads Oman delegation at Shangri-La Dialogue
Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, is leading a delegation from the Sultanate taking part in the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.
The conference, which runs from June 2nd to 4th, is discussing geopolitical issues and security in the Indian Ocean region.
Sayyid Badr made a contribution in which he stressed the importance Oman attaches to sovereignty, respect for international law and collective cooperation as key elements in maintaining maritime security.
He said that cooperation, information exchange and building trust between the Indian Ocean rim countries and specialised agencies would ensure the safety of maritime navigation, the smooth flow of international trade and transport and its impact on supply chains, stability and global development.
The Minister stressed that the shared challenges facing the Indian Ocean countries require strong cooperation and effective coordination between states to counter common threats and so ensure maritime security. He added that Oman is open to cooperation and partnership with all countries, organisations, companies and investors.
Sayyid Badr explained how Oman is developing special economic zones in its ports overlooking the Indian Ocean, including Duqm, Sohar and Salalah.
The Shangri-La Dialogue is an annual forum, held in Singapore, where security and political issues are discussed, with the participation of senior leaders, officials, decision-makers, defence and foreign ministers, national security advisers, military leaders, intelligence specialists and researchers, from countries around the world.
Taking part in the 2023 Dialogue from Oman are Major General Idris bin Abdulrahman Al Kindi, Secretary-General of the National Security Council; Rear Admiral Ali Abdullah Al Shidi, Head of the National Defence College; Ambassador Khalid Al Muslahi, Head of the Minister's Office and Anwar bin Ahmed Muqaibal, Chargé d'Affaires of Oman's Embassy in the Republic of Singapore.
