Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, today chaired a meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States (GCC).

The 156th session of the Ministerial Council, which took place at the headquarters of the GCC General Secretariat in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was attended by the Foreign Ministers of the GCC states and the Secretary-General of the GCC.

The Ministers reviewed progress in implementing the decisions of the Supreme Council of the GCC, aimed at enhancing joint Gulf action. They also discussed ways to continue such progress, especially in the fields of economic development and integration.

Addressing the meeting on the occasion of the GCC's 42nd anniversary, Sayyid Badr said that what the GCC has achieved over that period should encourage it to preserve those gains and aspire to further achievements, particularly in the areas of citizenship, customs union and the Gulf common market. Such an approach would secure the progress already made and help deliver prosperity, sustainability and security for the future, he added.

The Minister said the path of peace and cooperation is the only way forward, offering the best and safest model for the region and the world. He praised promising developments in regional relations, which he said set the stage for the launch of a new phase of development and prosperity for all.

This approach, he said, requires greater cooperation and partnership between all sectors and at national, regional, and international levels. It should support innovation, capacity building and adopt best practices, to integrate the national visions of the Council's countries and so ensure a more sustainable and stable future, he added.

The meeting was attended by His Highness Sayyid Faisal bin Turki Al Said, Oman's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Ambassador Khalid Al Muslahi, the Head of the Minister's Office; Ambassador Sheikh Ahmed Almaskari, the Head of the Ministry's Department for the GCC and Regional States, as well as Ministry officials.
