Diplomatic Undersecretary receives EU External Department delegation

Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, Diplomatic Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry received today Anna-Maria Panagiotakopoulou, Head of the Arabian Peninsula and Iraq Division of the European Union’s External Action Service.

The official visit by Ms Panagiotakopoulou and her accompanying delegation forms part of the continuing dialogue between the Foreign Ministry and the EU’s External Action Service.

The meeting discussed aspects of cooperation such as energy, regional issues and human rights, as well as the issue of exemption from the Schengen visa for Omanis.

The European side confirmed that the technical, legal and legislative committees in the Union are looking into the issue of exemptions for several countries, including the Sultanate of Oman, but stressed that this is a long process.

The meeting was attended by a number of officials from the Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the delegation accompanying the guest.
