Cairo: Arab Parliament calls for recognition of Palestine on Balfour Declaration anniversary
On the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, the Arab Parliament renewed its call for the international community to uphold its historical responsibility and work to end the resulting injustice inflicted on the Palestinian people.
In a statement, the Parliament said the Declaration of November 2, 1917 led to the violation and denial of Palestinian rights, and the displacement of Palestinians from their land.
The Arab Parliament declared that the only path to achieving security, stability, and peace in the region is through ending the Israeli occupation and recognising the Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The statement condemned the continued aggression by the occupation forces against Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, adding that what is happening constitutes a genocide, a fully fledged war crime and a blatant violation of international charters and the Geneva Conventions regarding the treatment of civilians during war.
The Arab Parliament called on countries that have not yet recognised the Palestinian state to do so and to work toward the immediate end of the occupation, the provision of civilian protection for the unarmed Palestinian people, and to exert pressure to halt the genocide, forced displacement, ethnic cleansing and systematic destruction of Palestinian lives.
