Bilateral relations
The longstanding relations between Oman and Egypt are deeply rooted in history. Historical studies have confirmed that relations between the two countries started in the time of the pharaohs. Diplomatic relations between the two countries began in 1972.
The relations between the two states are characterised by common ties in the political, and economic fields and many others. Oman and Egypt work to enhance security and peace in the Arab region through ongoing consultations and mutual meetings at all levels.
The Omani-Egyptian Joint Committee, chaired by the Foreign Ministers of both countries, plays an important role in promoting and strengthening bilateral relations between both countries. Numerous agreements and programmes have been signed between Oman and Egypt in the economic, educational, commercial, cultural and media fields.
Consular services
The Embassy provides consular services for Omani citizens visiting the Arab Republic of Egypt, as well as Egyptian citizens or residents wishing to visit the Sultanate of Oman for tourism and work purposes.
These services include the following:
Visa applications
(For further general information please click here.)
1: Omani citizens wishing to visit the Arab Republic of Egypt:
- Holders of normal (red) Omani passports must obtain a visit visa upon arrival at any of the airports of the Arab Republic of Egypt when coming from abroad. The cost of the visa is 25 USD and it is valid for 6 months from the date of entry.
2: Egyptian citizens wishing to visit the Sultanate of Oman:
- In accordance with the Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement, holders of special official and diplomatic passports are exempt from visa requirements. But holders of ordinary Egyptian passports need a visa. All kinds of visa to enter Oman can be obtained by contacting any tourist office in the Sultanate.
Lost passports
(For further general information please click here.)
If you lose your passport, you should report the incident to the nearest police station and make sure to obtain a report on the incident. Then authenticate it from the following authorities:
- The Security Directorate to which the police station issuing the report belongs;
- Administrative and Financial Affairs of the Ministry of Interior; and
- The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
This must be done before you come to the consular section at the Embassy to complete the procedures for issuing a laissez-passer passport.
Emergency help for Omani citizens
(For further general information please click here.)
Emergency help includes:
- Issue of laissez-passer passports (a special travel document valid for one-time travel to reach the Sultanate of Oman) if the passport is lost, damaged or expires while visiting Egypt.
- Providing advice and guidance in the event of emergency legal problems. To avoid entering into legal disputes, the Consular Section advises Omani citizens visiting Egypt to seek advice from the Embassy Attorney before concluding any agreements that have legal or financial aspects or obligations.
- Taking charge of the affairs of Omani citizens and taking care of their interests in case they face problems, for example: theft, fraud, emergency injuries, death, loss of capacity. This includes communicating with the citizen’s family and instructing them on how to deal with the situation.
- Egyptian laws require that a boy or girl, born in Egypt, whose father or mother hold Egyptian nationality shall automatically acquire Egyptian nationality. This therefore requires that the parents carry out the procedures to renounce Egyptian nationality in the event that the father of the child is of Omani nationality and they want the boy or girl, to obtain Omani nationality. In the event of this incident taking place, the Consular Section advises the parents to take the initiative to start the procedures to avoid any complications or delays. For more information in the case of exposure to this situation, kindly contact the Consular Section.
- The Consular Section also provides other services including the attestation of official documents issued by the Arab Republic of Egypt, after they have been approved by the document’s issuer, then the relevant Ministry and then the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This includes, for example, attestation of a medical report or sick leave, in which case the document must be countersigned by:
- the hospital from which the document is issued (or the Medical Professions Syndicate if the document is issued by a private clinic managed by a doctor, not a hospital)
- the Egyptian Ministry of Health and
- the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
