Oman at Extraordinary Meeting of GCC Ministerial Council
The Sultanate of Oman participated in the 46th extraordinary meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held in the State of Kuwait.
Oman was represented during the meeting by Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Oman's Foreign Minister. The meeting was chaired by Abdullah Ali Al Yahya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait and Chairman of the current session of the Ministerial Council, with the participation of the Foreign Ministers of the GCC States, and in the presence of Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC.
The Ministerial Council underscored the importance of respecting the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic. It also voiced its rejection of foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs.
The Council expressed its satisfaction with the steps taken to ensure the safety of civilians, stop bloodshed, achieve national reconciliation, and preserve the institutions and capabilities of the Syrian state.
The Ministers condemned the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, including the occupation of the buffer zone on the Syrian border. The Council stressed the need for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to stop these attacks and ensure Israel's withdrawal from all occupied Syrian territories.
On Lebanon, the Council reaffirmed the firm positions of the Council's countries in support of Lebanon's sovereignty, security, stability and territorial integrity.
The GCC Ministerial Council stressed the need to adhere to the ceasefire agreement. The Council also condemned the continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon, which have resulted in thousands of civilian victims and have led to the destruction of infrastructure and civilian and health facilities.
The extraordinary meeting was attended by Sheikh Ahmed Hashel Almaskari, Head of the GCC Department of the Foreign Ministry; Dr Saleh Amer Alkharusi, Oman's Ambassador to Kuwait and various officials from the Foreign Ministry.
