Message from the Ambassador
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the official page of the Embassy of Oman in the Federal Republic of Germany.
The Sultanate of Oman and the Federal Republic of Germany have enjoyed 50 years of diplomatic bilateral relations. The two countries have laid the foundation for fruitful cooperation in political, diplomatic, economic and cultural fields, characterised by positivity and mutual respect.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s visit to Germany in 2021 advanced diplomatic and economic opportunities across various sectors particularly in alternative energy, capitalising on Oman’s natural resources including hydrogen, solar and wind power.
In my role, I look forward to further strengthening the partnership and friendship forged between our two nations. I am excited to begin my journey in the diplomatic corps here in Berlin and explore the diverse and rich customs and traditions of this country, which today I call my home away from home.

Bilateral relations
The historic relationship between the Sultanate of Oman and the Federal Republic of Germany has been based on cooperation and close friendship. The official relationships between the two countries began in 1967 when official letters were exchanged to establish consular relations followed by diplomatic ones, after the exchange ambassadors between both sides in 1972.
Political and diplomatic cooperation
At the political level, Omani-German relations are characterised by a convergence of points of view on many regional and international issues. The political consultation sessions and the visits exchanged between senior officials from both countries keep in review various aspects of enhancing cooperation and ensure a regular exchange of views on issues of common concern.
The two friendly countries, based on excellent bilateral relations, work in coordination to build the foundations of security and stability in the region and in the world in general. This is achieved by encouraging constructive dialogue and negotiation and avoiding escalation to resolve outstanding issues and disputes.
Trade and investment
In the interest of developing economic and trade relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Federal Republic of Germany, economic ties between the two countries were boosted by establishing an Omani-German Joint Economic Commission in 1978, as agreed between the two governments.
The commission discusses frameworks for activating economic and technical cooperation, enhances the fields of trade and investment and exchanges experiences in various fields. It thus contributes to the growth of these relations, opening new horizons and creating opportunities for communication and partnership in the business sector, for small and medium enterprises, industry, energy and other important sectors.
The agreement on encouragement and reciprocal protection of investments, signed between the two countries in 1979, facilitates and stimulates trade and investment in various sectors. It is also evident that trade exchange is witnessing a steady growth in the volume of commercial activity and joint projects and investments. Many German companies are active in Oman’s infrastructure projects, contracting and industry, in addition to energy and other sectors.
Seeking to develop economic and trade relations, the Embassy works in coordination with governmental institutions and the private sector in both the Sultanate of Oman and Germany to promote the incentives offered by the Omani government for attracting investments, which can benefit from the economic potential and investment environment in the Sultanate of Oman.
The Sultanate of Oman is a unique destination for the German tourism market, where the German visitors enjoy its tourism features and attractions. On the other hand, many Omanis visit Germany for the purpose of tourism, medical treatment and study. There are also a number of Omani students studying in German universities at different study levels.
Cooperation in the fields of education and health
The number of Omani students studying in educational, research and health institutions is significantly increasing. Grants from the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) are under an agreement to jointly supervise the affairs of students studying at German universities, which was signed in 2005.
Cooperation in the health field is also one of the most important between the two countries, where the Sultanate of Oman is keen to benefit from German expertise.
