Austria: Oman at nuclear science and technology conference
Oman participated in a Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology, its Applications, and Technical Cooperation Programmes held in Vienna, Austria, over three days.
Yousuf Ahmed Aljabri, Oman's Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency and head of the delegation at the conference, highlighted in his speech the importance of the event in exchanging experiences and information related to the development, transfer and dissemination of nuclear sciences and technologies. These applications relate to areas such as climate, health, food safety, food security, water resource management and other fields that enable all countries to achieve sustainable development goals.
He noted that since Oman joined the agency in 2009, it has benefited from numerous technical cooperation projects in agriculture, food safety, human health, the environment and radiation safety.
He emphasized the need to continue efforts towards innovation in nuclear and other advanced technologies within sustainable economic and social development programmes. He also pointed out Oman's ongoing efforts in both the public and private sectors to establish cancer treatment centres.
