The Foreign Ministry is developing an official smartphone app.

The app aims to be an essential travelling companion for Omanis travelling abroad or for visitors to Oman. It is designed to help users travel safely wherever they are. If they have a problem, it shows them how to get help.

The app is currently available in Beta/testing version. (Please see below on how to download the app and give your feedback)

The app finds your nearest Omani Embassy and tells you how to contact that Embassy.

Lost your passport? Need to contact your country’s embassy in Oman? The Oman FM app is here to help.

Using the app, Omanis travelling abroad can register with the local Omani Embassy so the embassy can get in touch with them, if there is a problem in the country they are visiting.

The app is free and is available in Arabic and English versions.

It offers useful help and advice whether you’re an Omani travelling abroad or a visitor to Oman.

The App can also send you alerts about travel problems and keep you up to date with the latest Foreign Ministry news.

How to download the app

Apple iPhone

If you have an Apple phone go to the App Store by tapping the icon on your Home Screen.

Search for “Foreign Ministry of Oman” then download the app in the usual way.

If you have an Android phone go to the Google Play Store by tapping the icon on your Home Screen.

Search for “Oman Foreign” then download the app in the usual way.

How to set up the Oman FM app

When you open the App for the first time you will be asked to choose whether you want to use the App in English or Arabic.

The App will then ask you for the permissions needed to make sure you get the most from the App. It will ask to use your location and it will ask you for permission to send you notifications.

Please tap on “accept”. If you do not accept, some important functions on the app will not work.

You will then see system messages asking for the same permissions. Please allow both.

If you do not allow notifications and location services some important functions on the app will not work. You can change these Settings at any time after you have set up the App.

You will then see the Home screen, and are ready to use the app.

Find my local Embassy

Tap on this icon and the App will show you the Omani Embassy that covers you wherever you are in the world (see below).

Contact the Foreign Ministry

Tap here to get full contact details of the Foreign Ministry in Muscat. You can email the Ministry from this page.

Register with my local Embassy

This function allows Omanis travelling abroad to register with the Omani Embassy for the country they are in.

About this app

Tap here to be taken to this page, which explains how to use the app.

Settings

Tap here to choose the language for the App. In this section you can choose if you want the Oman FM App to use your location and if you want the Oman FM App to send you notifications.

If you select Priority Information only you will only receive high priority (red) alerts from the Foreign Ministry.

Bottom Tool Bar

Tap the Home icon to return directly to the home screen from wherever you are in the App.

Tap the Alerts icon to view alerts from the Foreign Ministry relevant to the country you are in. Important alerts are highlighted in red.

Tap the Help icon to get quickly to the Help page. This feature is available from every page in the app.

Tap the X icon to see the Foreign Ministry X feed. If you have the X app on your phone, you can open the feed within X.

Tap the News icon to see the latest news and updates from the Foreign Ministry.

Finding and registering with embassies

Find my local Embassy

Tap on the blue bar at the bottom to see full details of the Embassy.

Use the “Change Location” button to see the Omani Embassy for another country.

If you are in Oman the app will detect this and will ask you to select from various options.

If you tell the app that you are a visitor in Oman and then tell it what country you are from, it will show you the Embassy which provides cover for you in Oman.

Register with my local Embassy

Tap on the icon on the Home screen and the Oman FM App will then invite you to send your name and phone number to the relevant Embassy along with the length of your stay.

This information will only be kept for the length of your stay.

The app is currently available in Beta/testing version. We welcome your comments on problems with the app and suggestions on possible improvements.

To give feedback please tap on the Settings button on the app home screen. You can then rate the app and give your comments in the box provided.
