I am pleased to welcome you to the official page of the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in the sisterly Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

The Embassy is working to build relations between Oman and Mauritania and to expand cooperation in various fields. This is in implementation of policies drawn up by the highest authorities in the Sultanate, which stress the importance of building international cooperation by spreading a culture of tolerance and partnership among governments in order to achieve the well-being of all their peoples.

This page provides users with information on bilateral relations between Oman and Mauritania as well as offering information on ways to communicate with the Embassy and access its services.

Bilateral relations

Diplomatic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania were established on January 23rd 1989. Oman’s first diplomatic representation in Nouakchott was established on September 21st, 2015.

The appointment of the Ambassador of Oman to Mauritania, in September 2018 gave a boost to the existing relations between the two nations.

A memorandum of understanding between the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania has been signed, along with agreements of cooperation between the two countries in various fields. The most important of these is a draft agreement in the field of oil, energy and minerals.

The Embassy of Oman in Mauritania provides a range of consular services to both Omani citizens visiting Mauritania and Mauritanian citizens wishing to visit the Sultanate for tourism or business purposes. These services cover:

The objectives of Oman’s Mission to Mauritania include:

Political and diplomatic cooperation

Oman and Mauritania are working together to build strong relations between the two countries.

Oman promotes an approach based on dialogue, moderation and multilateral solutions in the quest for peace and stability in the Sahel region and West Africa.

Trade and investment

With regard to trade and investment, the aim of the Embassy is to create an atmosphere that supports investment between the two countries. It seeks to remove obstacles that may hinder the promotion of trade and works to build sustainable and mutually beneficial commercial and investment partnerships.

The mission also promotes Oman's 2040 Vision, the Sultanate’s tax system and its Foreign Capital Investment Law which make Oman an attractive business destination.

Cultural, educational and scientific exchanges

Oman encourages cultural understanding and mutually beneficial partnerships with the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

The mission continuously promotes mutual understanding between the two countries through cultural exchanges and familiarising the people of Mauritania with the rich cultural heritage of the Sultanate of Oman.
