Foreign Ministry launches e-services portal and smartphone app
The Foreign Ministry has launched an e-services portal and a smartphone application with the aim of integrating technology into diplomatic and consular functions.
The new services will enhance digital interaction, facilitate access to consular services and provide an interactive means that empowers citizens, residents and visitors to communicate with Omani embassies at any time and place.
Khalid Al Muslahi, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs, speaking as the chief guest at the launch ceremony, said that the digitisation of services reflects the Ministry’s commitment to innovation, modernisation and harnessing modern technology to develop performance.
“The e-platform is a step towards enabling government institutions, diplomatic missions, citizens, residents, and visitors to quickly and reliably access consular and diplomatic services. It seeks to facilitate communication with Omani embassies around the world,” he said.
In his speech, Engineer Khalid Alzadjali, Head of the Ministry's Digital Transformation Office, said that this initiative represents a qualitative leap in the development of government, consular and diplomatic services.
It aims to achieve operational efficiency, enhance digital interaction between the Ministry and beneficiaries of its services, and reduce paper procedures, in line with Oman Vision 2040, he added.
He said that the platform relies on the latest cybersecurity standards and integrates with other government systems, to ensure speed and accuracy in completing transactions.
The new e-services platform enables government institutions and diplomatic missions to complete their transactions electronically. The parties concerned will be provided with an integrated electronic payment system and multiple options for accessing services.
The smartphone application makes it possible to register traveller data and promptly view consular and security updates. It aims to provide a better user experience and ensures immediate response to any developments.
The launch forms part of the Ministry’s strategy to enhance digital transformation and provide more efficient, reliable and faster services, achieving the highest levels of quality and transparency.
The launch ceremony was attended by a number of heads of department at the Foreign Ministry, Ambassadors of sisterly and friendly countries, heads of offices of regional and international organisations accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of various government institutions.
