Spain: Presentation of Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing
The annual Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing was presented during an official ceremony held in the city of La Coruña, Spain.
This year, the British ship Excelsior received the Award in recognition of its pioneering role in promoting the principles of friendship and international understanding through the exchange of expertise in sail training.
The ship trains young people aged 15 to 26, empowering them and refining their skills in this ancient maritime art. It provides a unique experience, blending theoretical education with practical training, which offers participants experiences that build their character and enhance their leadership abilities.
The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Omar bin Said Alkathiri, Oman's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York and former Ambassador to Spain; Brigadier General (Navy) Ali bin Mohammed Al Housni, Commander of the Said bin Sultan Naval Base of the Royal Navy of Oman; officers of the Royal Navy of Oman, the President and officials of Sail Training International and sailing enthusiasts.
The Sultan Qaboos Award for Sailing is a prestigious award which aims to spread the message of peace and coexistence, honouring Oman’s rich maritime heritage and continuing its historic naval legacy. It also seeks to enhance cultural relations between Oman and other countries, while promoting sail training on a global level.
